Observance of Birds

A long swoop of white crane

Stalking across the river

Seeking prey.

Deliberate stem legs cross through

A drift of black geese.

A small splash, tidy ripples; Quiet applause.

The Argument

“At least you have a nice view here

You lyin’ bastard.”

She paused to pick up

Some dead flowers by the headstone.

“I’ll be back next week

Same as always.

You think carefully about

Your next excuses.”

She lifted the bucket that

Held well-used garden tools,

And gave a last glance at her handiwork.

Some wounds might never heal,

But having a pretty place

To examine them

Was a good idea.

Rise Above

Ever since man looked up

He sought to conquer the sky.

To daily soar with eagles,

And dive from heaven

With a falcon’s eye.

He watched the birds ascending

To learn the secret of their flight.

And achieve the powerful lift

With effortless grace.

To glide deep across the sky.

We were made to rise above

 The boundaries of the ground.

We have learned to build our wings

No heaven will be too high.

We continue to rise above

Any flaws in our designs.

Just give us a plane

And a patch of sky,

We were made to fly.
